In the second part of this trilogy, Lance takes a death-defying risk to be reunited with his crew. This time, he joins up with a different cast as he is relentlessly pursued by the new villain, Colonel Pavlov, who is looking for classified information he believes is in Lance’s possession.
The Escape starts off with Lance strapped to a hospital bed. He is being held captive in an airbase guarded by UN soldiers and has been in a coma for a month.
Once Lance gains consciousness, he tries unsuccessfully to escape. He is captured by Colonel Pavlov of the UN, who tortures him to get information about a film of the machine that caused the Burning. He believes Lance’s watch has the microfiche film in it.
Lance convinces his nurse, Allie, to escape with him and is successful on his second attempt. The two are relentlessly pursued by Colonel Pavlov, who is hell-bent on getting his hands on the microfiche film. They find sanctuary in the home of Clay, and his son Trevor, a former marine after the two shots, and kill the Russian soldiers who are after them.
Lance doesn’t settle there long as he’s on a mission to find his friend Nate and the other members of his crew. Together with Allie and Trevor, the three set out to look for them and soon come within the sights of Colonel Pavlov and his new allies, The Sanctuary. After escaping from the Colonel following a thrilling car chase, Lance decides to go it alone as he seeks out his crew.
Will his mission be a success, or will he once again fall captive to the Colonel and the murderous Sanctuary?
Verdict
The Escape is the second part of a trilogy about an apocalyptic dystopian world where Lance, the protagonist is on the run from some powerful forces. In the sequel, the author maintains the same high tempo set in the first book, The Burning. Although Lance is reacquainted with some old foes, there’s a new and more exciting set of supporting characters introduced in the thriller to give it an even more entertaining twist.
