In the third and final book of the trilogy, things come to a head as Lance, now united with his crew, seeks to defeat The Sanctuary and its allies once and for all.
However, Lance quickly learns that allegiances have shifted since they were last together. Ethan is now the head of the group and has taken Kirsten, Lance’s girlfriend, for his lover.
It doesn’t take long for the crew to accept Lance as their leader, something which leaves Ethan miffed. Meanwhile, Lances’ group The New Dawn teams up with Kat and Earl, whom they find living in their new neighborhood. The Sanctuary soon to catch up with them, and engage them in a vicious fight.
Both sides incur heavy casualties, but what is even more disappointing for Lance is that Ethan has betrayed them to The Sanctuary. Colonel Chao of the UN steps in just in the nick of time and helps them repel The Sanctuary. Encouraged by their numbers, which have now been boosted by their new acquaintances, The New Dawn decides to go on the offensive against their enemies. They make plans to attack The Sanctuary’s fortress, using intelligence they’ve gathered from one of the soldiers they captured.
Meanwhile, both sides of the divide scramble to get a hold of The Machine, the object that caused the apocalypse. Lance doesn’t want it to fall into the wrong hands, but can he trust anyone, including members of his crew, not to try and use it for their own selfish ends?
Verdict
The third book in the trilogy picks up the pace from where The Escape ended. Despite Lance being reunited with his crew, not everything runs as smoothly as he’d hoped, and it’s clear from the outset that he’s now fighting enemies from within.
In this grand finale, there’s a race to get a hold of The Machine, a powerful weapon that precipitated the apocalypse. If it falls into the wrong hands, there could be disastrous consequences.
Will Lance’s group, The New Dawn, vanquish their sworn enemies, The Sanctuary, or will the backstabbing within his group prove to be one obstacle too many to accomplish their mission?
