Concord; November 9, 2017: Life is always throwing challenges at us. Some of them could be violent nightmares that might descend us into a world of chaos and destruction at a moment’s notice. Moreover, in such situations, it is the support of family & friends that keep us strong. In that light, screenwriter and author Patrick Jean-Paul has come up with his new book which entails the importance of friendship for survival in a dystopian land marred by a lethal apocalypse. Entitled as “The Burning,” the science fiction novel has received positive responses from readers of all ages. The book is officially released in stores and online.
“I am thrilled to announce the upcoming launch of my new book ‘The Burning.’ It’s an inspiring tale of survival in the midst of a disaster in a dystopian environment where the force of friendship helps beat all odds. Though the book is in the young adult genre, it can be enjoyed by anyone, regardless of age. It tackles subjects that all of us can relate to. Anyone can find themselves in a sticky situation at any point in life. However, if they have a caring family and friends, they can survive any circumstance. This book is all about the significance and value of friendship in times of crisis,” stated the author.
“The Burning” is the story of a group of teenagers who find themselves in the middle of an apocalyptic event. Lance is the protagonist, and the other main characters are his friends Nate, Eric, Cassie, Jeremy, and Ethan. The story starts on a happy note where we find Lance and his buddies enjoying a great summer during their post junior year when suddenly catastrophe happens. The Sun unleashes a massive solar flare that engulfs the earth and burns the atmosphere, releasing an electromagnetic pulse which destroys all electronic devices rendering modern technology useless. Billions of people are killed due to solar radiation that rained from the flare, and the unbearable heat burns down homes and dries up the plant life.
The world descends into chaos, but luckily for Lance and his friends, their neighbor Mr. Jenkins comes to the rescue. A visionary dooms-day prepper, who teaches them the basics to survive the disaster. However, Mr. Jenkins gets murdered along with Ethan’s brother, thereby abetting more trouble for the group.
When they realize they are no longer safe in Mr. Jenkins’ bunker, together, they set out on a quest to safety. They have to move fast because there is a nuclear plant nearby which is going critical. On the way out of town, they meet new characters; some of them are friendly and helpful while others make things even tougher for them. Ultimately Lance and his friends find themselves in the wilderness where a group called Sanctuary captures them. The group follows a secret agenda which, if realized, could spell disaster for the world. The story takes a new turn when the teens discover the Sanctuary’s secret mission, putting the teens at odds with them. The story is also an inspiring tale of how people bank on the power of friendship to save themselves from an evil organization and survive the apocalyptic burning.
